At the end of the book “Lolita” when Humbert comes down the stares after killing Quilty and is greeted by a bunch of people who appear to be Quilty’s friends and are seemingly waiting for him while drinking his booze. Why do none of them react when Humbert states that he’s just killed Claire quilty and he visibly has blood stains and blood all over him. They all take it as a joke and say they can’t wait very long and quilty should hurry up.
I’m sure these weren’t the exact words or phrases used but yeah why didn’t no one seemed alarmed at all? I mean they offered him beer and let him drive away. Why?
