For context something about the tone and writing style of the following books really attracts me as a reader:
the Gilead series by Marilynne Robinson, Poisonwood Bible and other books by Barbara Kingsolver, the Goldfinch by Donna Tart, East of Eden by Steinbeck, Confederacy of dunces by toole, Jim Harrison’s True North.
I enjoyed the stories of each of these books but moreover the way each story was told and specifically the kind of vernacular and sophistication I find very affecting. Literary, I suppose.
Any books, contemporary or classics I should read that would continue to scratch this itch?
