With Halloween around the corner, I’m looking for a way to get myself in the mood, or scare myself some. I’m not a huge fan of movies or games, because a lot of them rely on jump scares, and I just don’t enjoy it. So I figure I could ask here, What is the scariest book you’ve ever read?
Thanks in advance

IT by Stephen King or Hell House by Richard Matheson
I’ve read a variety of Japanese short stories. Great creepy, horror, freaky stuff by e.g. Edogawa Ranpo. Coming from the Balkan, not much scares me, but Asians are kinda better at painting a scary picture than the rest, imo, so see if some Asians can recommend more.
I don’t read scary books. But Coraline and The Graveyard books have spooking settings.
Ghost Story by Straub
House of Leaves by Mark Z Danielewski
