Hello! I’m struggling to find a book I read my senior year of high school. It was for a diverse literacy class. The book I believe was about a middle-eastern family who lives in the US. The family had a fairly good relationship with the town’s people. There was a father, mother, grandma, older son, son, and younger daughter. The father was a doctor and was like a dickhead. I remember the father being upset that the eldest son focused on his hobby of guitar, instead of pursuing college education. So, I think the father destroys the guitar and it leaves a massive wedge in the family. I also remember the eldest son being obsessive over a girl to the point where he offs her, and then the oldest son offs himself. Now, I’m drawing a massive blank but I remember that family was not invited to the girl’s funeral but they come anyways and the middle child son is late and arrives with his clothes wrecked, and I think he makes a speech and the family leaves in shame. In the end the family moves back home and the son kind of just gives up on his own hobbies and aspirations to follow in his dad’s footsteps in becoming a doctor.
