I really liked this book. More than I expected to be honest. It was my first time reading something by Hemingway. And didn't think he'd be something that I was really into.
It was very plainly written but also had beauty in its simplicity. Also the story wasn't anything extraordinary. Yet, still felt really engaging and emotionally invested in the characters. In particular some of the passages describing the scenery in Italy or Switzerland really stood out.
It was a big page turner for me. I didn't want to put it down and would get really immersed into the narrative. I think something about it being so simple made it easier for my mind to handle but not to simple to the point where it became dull.
Also didn't really understand anything about the Italian front in WWI until reading it. So, it was interesting to hear about the war from that side. Overall one of my favorite reads of 2024 so far.
