I recently started reading howls moving castle and I got to the point where Sophie (as an old woman) goes to upper folding with Michael. Now what I don’t understand is that in the beginning of the book, it was Lettie who was sent to the bakery, and Martha to Mrs. Fairfax and then they switched, but then when Sophie goes to upper folding she says she’s there to visit Lettie? Does that mean Mrs Fairfax knows about the switch? I just don’t understand

She knows. Shortly after Mrs Fairfax mentions she realized it quickly and prefers having an enthusiastic student than an unwilling one.
