I’d love to hear about authors whose writing struck you in the moment and stayed with you over time. Authors who capture facets of humanity through fully formed characters, social/cultural commentary, and brilliant sentences. Any genre goes! Several of my all-time favorite authors are Ursula K LeGuin, John Steinbeck, and George Eliot.

If you would consider children’s books, it has to be Patricia Polacco. She wrote my most favorite sentence in Chicken Sunday. “She had a voice like slow thunder and sweet rain.” *happy sigh* I can absolutely hear a voice like that.
Lucy Grealy – Autobiography of a Face
Two that I can think of off the top of my head are Middlesex by Jeffrey Eugenides and A Constellation of Vital Phenomena by Anthony Marra.
