In the next few weeks I will be spending time camping in the Pacific Northwest on the Olympic Peninsula, somewhere in the Blue Ridge Mountains, and near the Rocky Mountains in Colorado. I would love suggestions for books that will help me sink into the natural beauty of these places and feel more connected with the setting that I am in.
I read fairly widely and would consider fiction, genre fiction or nonfiction. I would especially love suggestions for books by indigenous authors but again, I will read almost anything.
Here are some books with strong place settings that I've liked:
- Prodigal Summer, Animal Dreams, Demon Copperhead by Barbara Kingsolver (I know she writes a lot about the Appalachian mountains and might be a good pick for the Blue Ridge Mountains but I don't know if I can stand reading something else that will gut-punch me as hard as Demon Copperhead right now)
- The Bear and the Nightingale by Katherine Arden
- The Snow Child by Eown Ivey
- Love Medicine by Louise Erdrich
- The Nature of Oaks by Doug Tallamy
Thanks in advance!
