Pretty much the title. Wanna crunch on both these. The whole ASOIAF series, never seen the show. Dubliners as a work up to Portrait and then Ulysses. Which first? Thanks for the input. Keep it groovy 😎

      You can read both alternatively.

What are you in mood for? You want to escape into detailed world building grim dark story of supernatural forces combined with court politics or something more literary fiction and realistic

    2. Skip ASOIAF. GRRM is never going to finish it and there is no reason to support this nonsense.

I mean those are drastically different recs. Presumably you have an idea of the vibe/mood/general style of each so go off which you think you would enjoy right now. You could always switch if you don’t like what you start.

I will say I loved the first 3 of ASOIAF and found it a bit of a slog after that. The first 3 I think are definitely worth the read if you like epic, rather dark high fantasy with a lot of different characters and plotlines. I enjoyed how GRRM handled character development, morally grey characters, and surprising you with good guys having bad sides and bad guys having good sides. But if you only want to read a series you can definitely 100% finish, well- who knows if we’ll even get the last book. But I will say book 4 started to lose my interest as too many new characters and threads got introduced. It felt more cohesive up to that point, if you want to read all of them IMO it feels like a bit of work to try and keep everything pieced together.

    4. Those are vastly different genres, lengths and styles.

Also…Dubliners is a wayyyyyyy easier read than Ulysses…I wouldn’t say you “work up” to Ulysses…you dive in and let it drown you.
