Any books on guys going through depression that eventually end in suicide?
I need a book for my psychology course that is fiction (any type), but shows the gradual deterioration of a male mind until it eventually leads to their suicide. Any suggestions? Also, yes it is a weird assignment.
Morphine by Mikhail Bulgakov, though it’s more about addiction

*Death of a Salesman* by Arthur Miller might be a good fit for you. It’s a play though, not a novel, in case you were specifically looking for a novel.

A Little Life by Hanya Yanagihara.

The Sense of an Ending by Julian Barnes might partially fit this.
The main character’s friend commits suicide at the start and this is explored in the novel including his psyche leading up to his suicide.

The Picture of Dorian Grey, Oscar Wilde
The Private Memoirs and Confessions of a Justified Sinner, James Hogg (also one of my favourite novels of all time)
Both of these are also excellent choices for any psychology student.

If I remember correctly, I am thinking of ending things

Tons of Albert Camus’ work. The plague is great. Almost all his writings, one one way or another, contemplates the meaning of life and idea of suicide. It’s more from a philosophical sense then depression though.
