I personally really enjoyed Dead Silence by S. A. Barnes. It’s a science fiction horror story that takes place in space. Others that come to mind are The Haunting of Hill House by Shirley Jackson and Ghost Story by Peter Straub.

John Ajvide Lindqvist has written several books, apart from “Let the right one in”. I can recommend the Places trilogy (“I am behind you”, “I always find you” and “I am the tiger”). I’ve only read them in the original language though, not sure if they’re just as good in English.
