Since moving abroad, I have no English bookshops nearby, and I struggle with buying online without browsing physical copies.
It's time to top up the children's library. She's 4, and books are still mostly a bedtime thing. We're not quite into longer novels or chapter books yet.
So really, I'd like some recommendations for books that can still be read easily in one sitting, but are a bit more advanced than your Hungry Caterpillar etc. At the moment, all things Julia Donaldson are a hit.
Something nice, sweet, gentle, and imaginative, rather than silly and conflict driven (no David Walliams lol).

I have an almost 4 year old girl who similarly loves Julia Donaldson. Below are some of her current favourites:
-Cinderella’s Not So Ugly Sisters by Gillian Shields
-On the Way Home by Jill Murphy (there are a lot of classics by Murphy to check out!)
-The Kipper series by Mick Inkpen
-Look Up by Nathan Bryon
-Whose Dog is This by Andrew Sanders
My daughter is 6 years old now, but she absolutely enjoyed Barb the last Berserker series when she was 5.
I typically read 4 chapters per evening, and I would finish a book in 3 evenings. There are 3 books total. The art is pretty outstanding, we drew some of the characters and inserted an Asian girl (Princess of the Northeast) in there, so she could feel like part of the crew. The story is a bit silly, but not overwhelmingly so.
She also likes Narwhal – unicorn of the sea, and Scaredy Squirrel series when she was about 4. They can be finished in one sitting, and my kid learned some words from it.
The grufallo or tge original winnie the pooh books are great choices

Anything by Phoebe Gilman or Robert Munsch ( he has some silly ones but also lovely ones like Ribbon Rescue. Both have strong girls in their stories.
