My mom is going through a really tough time with some medical trauma. She often needs to be at the hospital for hours at a time for treatment and tests and I’d like to get her a book she can read to pass the time.
-She loves classic literature like the Brontes, James Joyce, Flannery O’ Connor, Graham Greene. One of her favorite books is Possession by AS Byatt.
-She likes things set in Ireland and Scotland in particular.
-No medical stuff since she has enough of that going on right now.
-Probably no supernatural or magical elements.
-No graphic violence.
Trying to thread the needle to find her something that is not too dour but will still engage her from a literary perspective. I’ve looked at some “cozy” books but I think they’ll probably be too light and superficial for her tastes.
I’ve been looking at the book “The Spinning Heart” if anyone is familiar with that.
TIA!
