I just finished Pet Sematary and loved it. I especially liked the fact that the supernatural elements felt a bit subdued. It was certainly there, but let you fill in a lot of the blanks with your imagination. I prefer that to outright monsters showing up right in front of someone and scaring them.
I also love the folklore of the town slowly being revealed. I think this genre is folk horror and would love some more of it.
So do you have any similar sorts of books? The grief aspects are definitely not important, just the parts I mentioned.

Wayward by Blake Crouch definitely has the small-town-creepy-slow-reveal thing. It’s not my favorite of his books but fits the bill!
