I liked the Fifth Season. I was amazed by the creativity and complexity of the world as well as deeply invested in the characters introduced in it. Syenite's failed relationship was tragic (IYKYK).

Then I picked up the second book from the library. I absolutely hated it. The second person narration seemed annoying and unnecessary; there was excessive info dumping about the characters and world; and the plot was horrendously slow. I was so, so BORED. I didn't feel any emotion despite the melodramatic writing and frequently checked how many pages there was left. Honestly it all gave me a headache.

I loved the reveals about the orogenes destroying the moon, the planet being sentient, the stone eaters being former humans who were turned by the Evil Earth but it was just kind of dumped by an exposition character, not really revealed in an exciting way.

IDK if I should read the third one because I'm kind of bitter about the middle book disease but I do know I will never be reading this one again.

It’s been a while since I read this trilogy, but I also remember the middle book being by far the worst. It just… plods.
