    Spoilers

I just finished reading pines, overall a pretty enjoyable read. It did lose me in the second half a little though.

Up to the part where the villagers are lynching Ethan I was really invested, but everything past that went a little too wild for me. Kinda took me out of the experience I was hoping to get from the book. Especially the monsters in the canyon felt too out there for me.

What intrigued me was this small-town conspiracy feeling in the first half. Everyone was in on something except us. People aren't who they seem to be. I feel like this mystery kind of feeling got a little lost when the book tried to become more intense and action filled.

Do you guys have any recommendations for books that capture the feeling of the first part of pines?
