Just finished Thomas Wharton's Book of Rain. Wow! What an incredible book! I don't even know how I would describe it to someone else. It encompasses so many stories and so many ideas, but somehow they all harmonized. I'm glad the cover blurb was enough to make me pick it up and take it home, but the blurb doesn't really represent the book accurately.

Anyway, I'm from the US but currently in Canada, and it's been eye-opening to me how different the selection of books on shelves is from US bookshops. I guess I had naively assumed that Canadian and US authors were marketed equally in both countries, but no. In addition to the many Canadian authors featured here that I never heard about or saw in the US, bookstores also seem to have many more books from UK authors. It's been very exciting finding a whole new pool of fantastic writers!

So to any Canadians out there, please let me know who you love to read! Speculative fiction, surrealism, urban fantasy, and character-driven sci-fi are my preferred genres, but I'm open to un-categorizable works too!
