It’s fine if romance is an element in the story, but I’d like a fantasy book or series with an adult woman and/or queer main character that isn’t super focused on romance or sex. I enjoyed the world-building in the “A Court Of Thorns & Roses” series, but of course the plot was very romance-focused, and it could have done better on exploring meaningful themes and character growth.

And if you clicked on this thread to find beautiful fantasy book reccs that don’t centralize romance too, I HIGHLY recommend Citadel by C. M. Alongi.

i know the title has the words “love story” in it, but just trust me on this one. this is not a romance book, there is a relationship that is a constant in the background since it relates to the actual plot of the story (which is fucking insane). this is honestly one of the most beautiful and unique stories i’ve ever read.

the premise sounds insane,i know, but i promise this is a haunting and beautiful and melancholic fantasy that should scratch this itch for you.

*The Last Unicorn* by Peter S Beagle

I’d also highly recommend the Earthsea Cycle by Ursula K LeGuin. However, there are multiple protagonists. The second book focuses on a young woman named Tenar. The fourth book focuses on an adult Tenar, and is one of the best books ever written.
