Looking for urban fantasy or sci fi with a similar feel to Ilona Andrews (Kate Daniels universe), Patricia Briggs (Alpha and Omega, Mercy Thompson), Anne Bishop (The Others). I put up with the romance aspects because the world building is really, really interesting. It’s not a selling point for me. Woman centered for preference but I do like The Dresden Files too so not a dealbreaker. I already own almost every book by Anne McCaffery, Mercedes Lackey, Elizabeth Moon, Tamsyn Muir, and the above mentioned authors.
I was recommended a book about a blonde girl from FL or CA whose (twin?) sister disappears in Ireland (?) and she goes to find her and meets a dark elf type dude in a bar in the first or second chapter. I don’t remember what it was called or who wrote it but I hated the main character so much if it hadn’t been a library e-book I would have burned it. So a hard no on that one if you know which one I’m talking about lol.
I feel like this is super picky but I read a ton and iBooks is drowning in self published trash so it can be hard to find new stuff that’s worth investing in. Thank you so much 🙂
