On here, I found a really great thread about books that will crush you, and I suggested The Old Man and the Sea by Hemingway. As an avid outdoorsman and marine science senior in uni, that’s one of my favorite books of all time. Could y’all recommend similar books based on concept? Man vs. nature, sole fisherman offshore, that type of thing? Any recommendations would be greatly appreciated! 😃

Into Thin Air (a personal account of an expedition to Everest) and A Walk in the Woods (about the author’s experience hiking the Appalachian Trail) come to mind.
I’m not sure if this is what you’re looking for, but both are fantastic books involving the outdoors!!!
The River: A Novel by Peter Heller
A story about two colleges students on a wilderness canoe trip in Canada and end up trying to outrun a wildfire.
Barren Grounds by Skip Pessl.
It tells the tragic story of the Moffat canoe expedition through the Barren Grounds of Arctic Canada in 1955.
You might like *Kon Tiki* by Heyerdhal. It’s nonfiction, but is a thrilling read. He sets out to see if it’s possible the South Pacific was first inhabited by people from South America. They build a raft as historically accurate as possible and set out to see if wind and current will carry them westward. Despite his hypothesis now pretty well rejected, the book is a real great adventure.

The Perfect Storm by Sebastian Junger and In The Heart of the Sea by Nathaniel Philbrick are both heartbreaking and fascinating.
