Hello party people! I'm in a book club that's been together for a while and it's my turn to pick the book. Sometimes we do themes for our picks, and for this cycle the theme is "good books with good film adaptations." Right now we're reading the firm by John Grisham which is actually a little bit more pop fiction than we normally read, but I'm excited to get into it.
The way that our group works is that whoever's turn it is to pick the book picks 2-4 books as options and then everyone else in the group votes, so I'd love some suggestions for good books that have been adapted into films. Right now the only thing I can come up with is Annihilation by Jeff VanderMeer, so I'd love some other suggestions. We're really not that picky so it's cool if the book is difficult, strange, or obscure, as long as it's good! Non-fiction is cool as well, although we've been reading a lot of non-fiction so I'm probably going to pick fiction unless a suggestion really grabs my attention. The only limit is length, we try to keep our picks under 600 pages so something like IT would be too long.

“Little Children” by Tom Perrotta! The film was Academy Award nominated. I would call it a dark comedy, but it’s very cynical about marriage and parenthood.
Apparently, “Turtles All the Way Down” is really good. It was recently released as a movie, and all I’ve seen are excellent reviews.

This is longer, but the new Dune movies inspired me to actually read the book, and I’m so glad I did. Awesome movie adaptation, but the book also helped some things make more sense too

*All You Need is Kill* by Hiroshi Sakurazaka was adapted into *Edge of Tomorrow*, starring Tom Cruise and Emily Blunt.
*The Mist* by Stephen King
*Perfect Blue: Complete Metamorphosis* by Yoshikazu Takeuchi was adapted into the anime film *Perfect Blue* by Satoshi Kon.
*Battle Royale* by Koushun Takami was adapted into a film by Kinji Fukasaku, though it may be too long. My copy comes out to 608 pages, though it has a few interviews with Fukasaku and others in the back. The story itself ends on page 578.
*Roadside Picnic* by the Strugatsky brothers was adapted into the film *Stalker* by Andrei Tarkovsky. *Roadside Picnic* and *Annihilation* shares similar concepts and themes.
