i find i'm really into this trope lately and i simply can't get enough
i enjoyed The Collector by John Fowle and am currently reading his other work, The Magus.
i've read quite a bit of Murakami for this reason. The Phantom from the Phantom of the Opera fits this trope pretty well, too.
in general i think i'm just looking for really gloomy, mentally ill, slightly obsessive or really sad male characters. idk how else to explain "pathetic" 😭 kind of like Joel from the film Eternal Sunshine
i'm okay with thriller/horror but would like at least a little bit of romance 😀 would prefer slightly older books/books that take place in the past (pre-2010s)
