My 9 year old nephew loves Tucket’s Travels and the Hatchett Series. What are books that are either Old West or survival focuses that he might enjoy that are age appropriate?
I am thinking about other Gary Paulsen books but am struggling to think of more option.
I always clumped together in my head Hatchet and My Side of the Mountain.

Jean Craighead George wrote several YA novels with nature/survival themes. Her most famous are My Side of the Mountain and Julie of the Wolves. I read and enjoyed My Side of the Mountain around the same time I read Hatchet, and I stumbled across The Talking Earth as an adult and enjoyed it.

“My Side of the Mountain” by Jean George, careful he doesn’t actually run off into the wilderness though have him read “Into the Wild” by Jon Krakauer when he’s older.
Edit: Lol we all seem to agree

Jim Kjelgaard wrote a number of great books for young readers that focus on people surviving in nature, usually along with their dog.
