Everytime I walk into a library I’m super overwhelmed with all the choices and don’t know where to start! Iv tried picking books that I think I’d like but most the time I’m uninterested with the plot. I’m not sure what my “genre” is and I haven’t read many books as an adults although I want to. There’s only one book Iv read in my life I can say I genuinely loved, Flowers for Algernon. I find myself thinking about this book all the time and Iv reread it multiple times! But I haven’t been able to find anything that’s peaked my interest as much as this book.
Its a SyFi book but it seems so much more at home than that. Some things I liked about that book was mainly the main character, so humble and human. Its written in journal entries and I loved being inside his head. I liked that the plot seemed out of reality but not too out of reality. I loved learning more and more about his family and how it made everything connect and I absolutely loved chapters with his love interest! It was bittersweet and sometimes disturbing! I actually cried at the end it felt so real. I’m looking for something that’ll make me feel that way again. I have been recommended Of Mice and Men but it’s always checked out at the library but it is on the list!

Some books with a similar vibe as Algernon:
The Curious Incident of the Dog in the Nighttime by Mark Haddon
Slaughterhouse Five by Kurt Vonnegut
The Road by Cormac McCarthy
Never Let Me Go by Kazuo Ishiguro
