Any genre. Just wanting to learn through another’s experience and relate it to my own. Something like a single parent faced with adversity and persevering. Or a child growing up without a father and the challenges they are faced with throughout the years. I’m hoping for the ending to be positive but I’m open to all outcomes.

John Irving, Until I find you
*Homecoming* and others of the Tillerman Cycle books by Cynthia Voigt.
Parachutes by Kelly Yang – Dual pov, both characters have fathers who left their mothers
The Bride Test by Helen Hoang- The main character both grew up without a father and was abandoned by the father of her child
Also a closely related cousin, “father is technically around physically, but emotionally absent” :
Funny Story by Emily Henry – The child is now an adult. The father is sometimes technically there, but he’s emotionally absent and unreliable. The main character emotionally dealing with that relationship is a significant subplot
Stay with My Heart by Tashie Bhuiyan – A main character is raised by her single father who’s emotionally absent and barely seems to notice her existance
