I like the idea of a period piece (1880s-1960s) story taking place in a hospital where there's some characters that are down on their luck and aren't very focused on how to make their life worthwhile. But I also like the more in depth characters that know how to push the other characters buttons and do what they can to help others. And then at some point more toward the second half of the story the more in depth character eventually has a romance with one of the other characters that isn't made out to be the main plot, but rather to help proceed with the storyline. The closest I've gotten to this is The Cider House Rules (Great book, highly recommend John Irving's work) and also from what I've seen the Winter's Tale has the romance I'm looking for but looks a little alienating. Hope there's more out there for what I imagine
