WOW! what a journey. I don’t even know where to start or how to process what I just read. It seems like there are so many themes and life lessons presented in the book. The main one that stood out to me was the paradigm between the human condition, good vs evil. I noticed a theme of Cane and Able typography e.g. Abra, Adam, Aaron vs Cathy, Carl and Charles. What other major themes are present in the book? any minor ones that anyone has discovered through multiple read throughs?

Such a good book. I’ve read it three times, and get something different out of it each time.

Cathy is one of my favorite antagonists in any book ever, and every scene with her is just so damn compelling.

Not exactly a theme perhaps, but it was absolutely fascinating getting to know Cathy’s character. Steinbeck writes her in a way that would likely now be diagnosed as ASPD. His understanding and ability to depict the real and often misunderstood complexities of humans was way behind his time imo.

Such an incredible book. Might even say it’s my favourite.
