I haven’t even started browsing for one. I just instantly think there is no such thing as a book that could actually scare you like a movie does.
But could you change my mind ? Are there any horror novels that was able to scare you in any way?

Haunting of Hill House is very internal, might do it for you.
Personally short stories always hit me harder than novels ever did. I don’t think I’ve ever really been scared after reading a novel but I know several short stories that had me looking over my shoulder lol. Here’s some good ones.

The US forest ranger one (I don’t remember the title off the top of my head but it should be easy to find)
Pet Sematary and Salem’s Lot were creepy.
House of Leaves still gives me nightmares and it’s been over a decade since I read it.
