Hi all! I’m looking for a book to gift a friend.
I know she’s liked Daisy Jones, Where the Crawdads Sing, Eleanor Oliphant, and Gone Girl, which all have great writing, strong female protagonists, and pull you in pretty quick. They’re not too heavy but do deal with deep topics.
She’s also been interested in the sort of fleabag – female rage – unhinged woman genre but I think a lot of these types of books deal heavily with abusive/toxic relationships or disordered eating, which I’m not totally looking for. I do want a book that leaves her feeling good, a more upbeat novel that she could devour and still be impressed rather than depressed.
Books I’m thinking about but haven’t read, so I’m not sure about the pace or feeling:
Breasts and Eggs – Mieko Kawakami,
Everyone in this room will someday be dead – Emily Austin, Penance – Eliza Clark, All’s Well – Mona Awad (my friend is an ex theater dork), also Bunny by Mona Awad but I’m not sure if it’s too gory and dark, I’ve heard a few people say it was a confusing read.
I would love any recommendations!
