hello everyone! i apologize if this is the wrong subreddit as i have never been here before, however, as a requirement before entering my pre-ap english ii class, i need to read one book off of a list (which is why i don’t know if this is where i should post it because you guys would be suggesting books based off limited options). the list is:

Invisible Man by Ralph Ellison / Great Expectations by Charles Dickens / King Lear by William Shakespeare / The Adventures of Huckleberry Finn by Mark Twain / Moby Dick by Herman Melville / Catch-22 by Joseph Heller / Portrait of the Artist as a Young Man by James Joyce / The Great Gatsby by F. Scott Fitzgerald / The Awakening by Kate Chopin / Crime and Punishment by Fyodor Dostoevsky / Billy Budd by Herman Melville

we would probably do an essay about whatever we chose (their theme, characters, etc) once we get back to school if that helps narrow down the book to read. also along those lines, if y’all could explain why i should choose a certain book, i would be eternally grateful. tysm!!!

edit: layout of the list to make it easier to read (hopefully)
