A book that tells the history of space exploration in a story format

After watching For All Mankind, I really want to read about the actual history of the early days of space exploration. But I dont want like a "they did this… then this happened" history book, im looking for something that is an actual story.

Im an engineer, so if its technical then its all the better. But it doesnt have to be as long as its a well written story.
