I love psychology, and how it affects characters lives. It’s interesting to see their internal motivations and conflict.

If it helps, I grew up reading Wings of Fire, Warriors, Silverwing, Guardians of Gahoole, The Guardian Herd, Percy Jackson, etc ect. I like the shows Arcane, Lackadaisy, The Owl House (specifically the non filler episodes), The Digital Circus, Death Note, Blue Eye Samurai, The Umbrella Academy and live action One Piece. I like the webcomic Africa
I’d prefer it if the books don’t revolve around romance, though if enough people say it’s good I won’t judge a book by its cover

Not needed to read, but it could help specify my interests:

My favorite books, partially because I haven’t read much in years:

    • Darkwing by Kenneth Oppel (as the first bat to fly, Dusk is an outcast from his colony, but also an asset. But what is interesting is he has a sister who accompanies him on everything, despite not being able to fly being a huge disadvantage. His sister is jealous, but still supports him. Also, on a recent reread for nostalgia, the book gave me some comfort, living in a changing world and that the AI pandora box has been opened.)

    • Darkstalker by Tui T Sutherland (the concept of having all the power in the world, but it eats away at your soul the more you abuse it, becoming desensitized, is so interesting. That and Clearsight struggling with a gift of prophecy that’s so strong that she can see every possible future- which ends up being like not having any foresight at all, since she doesn’t know which timeline will happen.)

    • Crookedstar’s Promise by Erin Hunter (spoilers: Crookedstar unknowingly makes a promise that leads to him getting power/leadership over his clan, at the cost of loosing everyone he loves. It reminds me a lot of the story of Job from the Bible. Him trying to earn his mother’s love years down the line is heartbreaking.)

If it also helps, in my webcomic it explores themes of:

    Forgiveness

    Guilt

    Trust issues/paranoia

    Being manipulated

    Grief

    Cognitive dissonance in general

One of the characters has the power to put thoughts into others’ minds, which can effectively mind control others. It becomes a vicious cycle when the character makes others think they care about her, only for her to know it’s not actually real/it’s wrong

General characters I’ve found interesting: (spoilers)

Pyrite/Hailstorm from Wings of Fire. Dragon has been put under a spell for years to think they are a different dragon than who they really are, which really messes with their mind when they’re taken off the spell.

Yellowfang from Warriors, as she blames herself for her son’s tyranny, and ends up being the one to kill him.

Hawkfrost from warriors, as (from what I remember, it has been years since I read the books), he was heavily manipulated by the ghost of his dead dad, and did a bunch of evil stuff to gain his dad’s appreciation and feel safe/secure in his own clan.

Jerboa from Wings of Fire enchants into existence a mini her to raise as a child, but slowly becomes more and more of a horrible parent as she tweaks the child with magic.

Hunter from the owl house, because it is like the show producers copied one of my own characters

    Jinx and ekko from arcane

    Miguel from spiderverse
