I’m currently reading Ready Player One and will use it as an example as best I can but keeping this spoiler-free. It’s been an incredibly interesting experience for me to read this and not truly know what’s actually historically accurate. It’s sent me searching for movies, games and other references to the setting which is really cool to me!

I’m not sure if it’s the mindset I’m in while reading this book or why I’ve never experienced this before. I’m assuming Ready Player Two will have similar references. I’ve read mostly Fantasy and Sci-Fi that don’t splash into the real world in a way that made me question things like this. But, it’s led me to some really awesome movies that I otherwise just wouldn’t have discovered.

Have you had an experience like this with a book or book series?

    1. So that book was pretty much written, in a way I very much enjoyed, as pandering to those of us who grew up in the 80s with all of that stuff. For me, it was a bunch of awesome references to my childhood. I’m really happy to hear you say you didn’t know it and appreciate it for expanding your horizons!

    2. It’s perfectly enjoyable if you enjoy the lists of IP and trivia from that era. But it is objectively kind of poorly written. The author just tells you to imagine a character someone else invented doing something cool, without ever really relying on his own prose to illustrate the scenes.

    3. I hated. I love video games and trivia and lots of people told me I would love it. The book sniffs it’s own Farts
