I’m trying to get back into fiction reading and this book was the real highlight of last year for me – the self-consciously literary, ‘intelligent’ writing would definitely be off-putting for some, but the highlight passages are still burned into my brain and feel like parts of my actual life, even though they of course weren’t.

Can anybody recommend any books that are similar? I understand that other Roth novels could be but I’m not sure he ever quite hit the same odd sweet spot that The Counterlife hits.
