Dreams of El Dorado
A Lady’s Life in the Rocky Mountains by Isabella L. Bird. Classic travel memoir about Bird’s journey through the Rocky Mountains in the 1870s.

Gotta recommend it: *Lonesome Dove* Larry McMurtry.
John McPhee *Basin and Range*
Cheap Land Colorado by Ted Conover for a really interesting nonfiction option, especially if you’re going to be passing through CO!
