I tend to take very good care of my books; typically, if one is damaged it is due to me rereading it over and over again, or due to a friend mishandling it when borrowed.

    However.
I have one book that I WANT to get into… but just can’t. I hate it. And as a result end up accidently, mindlessly abusing it. The book in question; Stephen King’s “Dr. Sleep”. The book has been a coaster, it held up one side of a t.v. for two or three years, has been a surface for note writing, and has very obvious food stains. At this point, I keep it out of pity.

I’ve been WAITING to share this. I’m an avid Stephen King fan so I get a lot of SK books from friends who are moving or family who find a big haul at a garage sale.

I have 3 copies of The Gunslinger holding up the center of my bedframe (it came with a shitty plastic piece that broke immediately). It helps keep the middle of the bed from dipping.

    2. I used to be a tool and die maker. One of the books in that trade, a standard reference, is Machinery’s Handbook. Since it’s both compact and relatively massive, it makes a great door stop.
