Looking for something about being in transition, or places of transition, from maybe an autobiographical, anthropological, or sociological point of view. Not liminal in the “ooo creepy empty spaces” sense, but in the definitions of it as human experience of a state of transition, change, in-between, or limbo that elicits feelings of unease and discomfort within us. It could be a book about a historical event, a memoir or essays about a personal experience of a time of change, a researcher’s reflections on how humans experience change. Sorry this might be both too broad and also too specific of a request haha

Not sure this would apply. A book entitled “Bury Me Standing” had a strong impact on me. It is an overview through history of the Gypsy people. At some level it is about change in that the very nature of their traveling lifestyle left others to define (and judge) them as: threatening; homeless; illegal; invasive. All they did was change their location (s) and suddenly an arbitrary ( to them) political border was crossed and they were seen as criminals. Interesting how the author brings the study into modern times. Title comes from a man’s statement:. “Bury Me Standing; I’ve been on my knees all my life”.
