my sweet dog has been diagnosed with terminal cancer & i’m looking for books that deal with the loss of a pet and grief.
i’m not a stickler for fiction vs nonfiction, i’d take either/both. my only request is nothing that falls within the scope of religion.
thanks 🙂

I’m so sorry to hear about your dog’s diagnosis.
“Goodbye, Friend: Healing Wisdom for Anyone Who Has Ever Lost a Pet” by Gary Kowalski – This book offers compassionate guidance and practical advice for coping with the loss of a pet, drawing on the author’s own experiences and insights.
“The Loss of a Pet: A Guide to Coping with the Grieving Process When a Pet Dies” by Wallace Sife – Written by a psychologist specializing in pet bereavement, this book provides compassionate support and practical coping strategies for dealing with the grief of losing a pet.
“Dog Medicine: How My Dog Saved Me from Myself” by Julie Barton – While not specifically about pet loss, this memoir explores the profound bond between a woman and her dog, offering insights into the healing power of the human-animal connection.
“A Dog’s Purpose” by W. Bruce Cameron – This heartwarming novel follows a dog as he is reincarnated through multiple lives, offering a poignant exploration of love, loss, and the enduring bond between humans and their pets.
All Creatures Great and Small or Dog Stories by James Herriott. He writes about being a vet and there are lots of vignettes about people losing their beloved animals, but there’s funny stories in between so you don’t get bogged down in sadness.
