Either or is fine. My favourite sci-fi short story is Last Contact, so something like that would be really good – I’ve also read They’re Made Out Of Meat, The Egg, I Have No Mouth & I Must Scream.
As for surrealism, short stories that are reminiscent of things like The Twilight Zone, Dalí/Magritte art, the backrooms concept, Possibly in Michigan (short film) is the best way to describe what I’m looking for. TIA!
