I’ve been watching a lot of it’s always sunny in Philadelphia, and now I’m in the mood to read a book about real people who tried to do some sort of scheme (illegal/immoral schemes preferred) that went very wrong and blew up in their faces.
Basically, I’d like to read an episode of it’s always sunny only in book form and one that actually happened, if that exists.

Reminds me of the movie A Simple Plan (1998) which was based on the book {{A Simple Plan by Scott Smith}}. Never read it but hope this helps.
Try {{The Disaster Artist}} !
… fair warning, the scheme itself is legal (although just baffling), but the money to fund it may or may not be. We don’t get an answer.
David Sinclair: *Sir Gregor MacGregor and the Land that Never Was*.
Except it wasn’t really hilarious. The bizarre grandiloquence of the whole scheme ought to have been funny but hundreds of people lost everything and many died.
