I’m currently struggling to read books who began reading books as an adult.
Anyone who has similar experience or any tips?

I may not have the typical western educational background, I lived in an asian country up to 12 years old, came to the US with my family but did not go to typical school, did homeschooling. Mostly studied math, science, programming and music (Dad being engineer and Mom a piano player), I didn’t read much and had somewhat broken English. Managed to get in to University majoring Engineering. Have no problem reading textbooks because the grammer and the sentences are basic, but have a hard time reading literature books (struggle to read ‘ the great Gatsby’, ‘the scarlett letter’ etc those classic english books which a lot are taught at high school). Even reading children books or fantasy books such as Harry Potter, Narnia, Lord of the Rings is slow for me.

Does anyone have a similar experience as I have, being a non-native and also starting reading books as an adult? Could anyone give me any advice, should I just enjoy reading despite being so slow and somewhat frustrated of my reading?
