I really like the concept of dopplegangers. I’m looking for books about them, both non fiction and fiction. I just think they’re a cool concept. I enjoy fiction most when there’s a mystery underpinning it and the characters are likable.
I would greatly prefer not to read stories that emphasize bad people doing bad things, or where the author is really clearly got hangups around women or other such things.
I did try Dark Matter, but that one wasn’t really for me. It felt like it was presenting a very obvious (to the reader) event as mysterious and I just didn’t like the main character much. I also read and enjoyed >!Southern Reach trilogy, though Annihilation was by far the best of them.!< (I don’t think that’s a big spoiler but I would respect wanting to go in blind.)

Succession by Scott Westerfeld contains a pair of characters who look extremely similar by coincidence. This is a major plot point.
I also didn’t like Dark Matter much. I found the novella [And Then There Were N-1](https://escapepod.org/2018/11/01/escape-pod-652-and-then-there-were-n-one-part-1/) by Sarah Pinsker to be a much better-written take on similar ideas.
