I want to read more short fiction. Specifically, I want to focus on individual stories rather than on collections by particular authors. I guess I’m looking to build my own anthology of great short stories to read over the course of the next year?
So please tell me, what your favorite short stories? The ones that really stick out for you as perfect, the best examples from the writers you love? I’m open to all genres, translations from languages other than English, etc. I usually don’t love fantasy, mysteries, or sci fi novels (though oddly I adore movies based on those books?), but have enjoyed shorter fiction in those genres.
Please include the specific story title (rather than the collection or just the author).
