I noticed lately that at a local used bookstore I go to they have a specific section dedicated to “conspiracy” books: anything ranging from UFOs to cryptids to Elvis secretly still being alive. I don’t actually believe most of what’s in these books, but I think they’re fun to read as a sort of sci-fi that someone is taking *way* too seriously. However, I’m not really a big fan of the generic conspiracy theory stuff. Although sometimes I can find interesting books like this, a lot of it is the normal alien-abductions, Freemasons, etc stuff.

I was wondering if anyone has any suggestions for off-the-wall conspiracy theory books? It doesn’t necessarily have to be a “real” conspiracy where the author is being completely serious, it can be a satirical thing. But just any types of books about some sort of conspiracies/secrets that are really absurd or obscure. Especially those written in a pseudo-academic style.

For example, two that I found recently are “Secret Journey to Planet Serpo” (which claims that a bunch of US government/military people have a diplomatic relationship with aliens on another planet and have visited it numerous times) and “Exo-Vaticana” (which explores how the religious world may react to the arrival of aliens). Again, doesn’t have to be alien-related, that just seems to be what I’ve mostly encountered so far.

**The Illuminatus! Trilogy** by Robert Shea and Robert Anton Wilson is a satirical look at multiple conspiracy theories. Written in the 1970’s, some of its topical humor and references may be dated. The story itself gets pretty wild.
