Hi all! My last few reads have all either been romance or mystery, and I’m not in a sci fi or fantasy mood at the moment (though I am tempted to reread the Poppy War trilogy). Anyway, I’m looking for a contemporary fiction/drama book. It can have elements of romance or some other genre, I’m just burnt out on the genre in general when it is the primary focus of the novel. Some of my favorites:

    Frankenstein
    Normal People
    Revolutionary Road
    Perks of Being a Wallflower
    The Tale of Despereaux
    The Great Gatsby

    Thanks in advance!

    1. I really enjoyed The Namesake by Jhumpa Lahiri. It’s a story following one family over several decades after they emigrate to America from South Asia. Some parts were heartbreaking, some uplifting. A real slice of life
