Looking for book suggestions that are whimsical, funny, and light! If bad things happen, that’s fine, but would prefer there not to be a lot of… emotional resonance, if that makes sense? I want to laugh, not get punched in the feels.

The books that come to mind are mostly sci-fi/fantasy but happy to take other recs also. I’m thinking along the lines of Jasper Fforde’s Thursday Next series; I’ve also read and enjoyed a few Discworld books (favorite is Equal Rites). Thanks!

      * The House in the Cerulean Sea, by TJ Klune. M/M romance, strangelings, found family.
      * Uncanny Magic, by CM Waggoner. Some violence, do be warned, but still felt light-hearted at the end. Plucky young character must overcome sexism to reach her magical potential! (kind of)
      * The Fairy Stepmother, Inc., by Maggie Hoyt. Witty, pushes against “evil stepmother” trope.
      * In Other Lands, by Sarah Rees Brennan. Her other work is all pretty dark but this book was lovely, with funny and snappy dialogue. M/M romance
      * With the Fire on High, by Elizabeth Acevedo (high school single parent explores her love of cooking while navigating challenges around money, etc.)
      * Let’s Pretend This Never Happened: A Mostly True Memoir, by Jenny Lawson (memoir, funny for the most part, she has a fun and distinctive voice)
      * The Housekeeper and the Professor, by Yoko Ogawa (Like the Adam Sandler movie 50 First Dates, except actually very sweet and good)
      * To Say Nothing of the Dog, by Connie Willis (funny and lighthearted, time travel)
      * The Perilous Life of Jade Yeo, by Zen Cho (novella, set in the 1920s)
      * Legends and Lattes, by Travis Baldree
      * The Cybernetic Tea Shop, by Meredith Katz. F/F romance featuring an android
      * The Very Secret Society of Irregular Witches, by Sangu Mandanna
      * You Sexy Thing, by Cat Rambo – space opera with smart ships.
      * Excavations, by Kate Myers. Drama on an archaeological dig!
      * The Very Secret Society of Irregular Witches, by Sangu Mandanna
