I found this on Libby and seen Stephen Kings magical name and went solely off that instead of reading the description.

While I know he writes other stuff than horror, I assumed it would be horror. While it does have some parts that are crazy disturbing, it’s not horror. It’s an amazing fable.

It goes so in depth and brings in such a rich and great story. I’m glad I read it. I keep thinking about it and would love to see it as a movie somehow one day.

My favorite of his is still Pet Cemetery.

What do you think about this book!?

      I was disappointed. The 17-year-old protagonist didn’t sound like a 17-year-old.

    2. I never read any Stephen King before, and tried this because I’m a fantasy person.
I was underwhelmed. The first part was nice, but as soon as he actually went down, it felt strange and yet boring. I gave up a bit after the half mark, though, so my opinion doesn’t count much.

It was my first Stephen King book and I thought it was rather disappointing. Honestly the first half (him taking care of the old man and his dog) could have been a fine standalone story. But the book dragged on. The second half was extremely meh. Didn’t care about any of the characters or the story, was just glad to be through it (read as part of book club). It seemed to me like King enjoys a bit too much “protection from editors” here

    4. I understand that some (most?) people probably found the book disappointing/underwhelming. Granted, the first half was excellent but different than the second half, the character in no way acted like a regular teen, and the final battle was rather…underwhelming. However, as a long time King fan, I have come to appreciate his style, all quirks included, and I enjoyed this book. It was a nice departure from his usual stuff, and I found myself loving the world he created. To everyone for whom this was King’s first book, I would recommend going for some of his other classics to get a better impression. I believe his works are diverse enough that there’s something for everyone.
