Hello friends,
ADHD/Asperger’s friend here. Naturally this is a characteristic that I have been engaged with my entire life in both positive and negative aspects. I have gotten help through school, individual tutoring, counseling, familial and friendly support, etc. I am still as a 32 year old male learning so much about it and every day it’s amazing to find people describing personal experiences with it that blow my mind because I have experienced the same but never knew the causality or how to identify it.
My question is, I am an avid reader (specifically an audiobook listener) and I would love to find a nice piece of literature that can help me break down and really get to know my disabilities even more. If anyone has any great suggestions for autism/ADHD/Asperger’s support books out there for me to try, I’d be so grateful. 🙂

For ADHD the classic recommendation is probably “Driven to Distraction” by Edward M. Hallowell and John Ratey. It’s an exploration of numerous patients with ADHD, their stories and symptoms and how they figured out how to deal with the various quirks of their ADHD.
The first thing that came to mind for me on this is Kim Hooper’s Ways the World Could End. Narration goes back and forth between a young teen girl and her dad, who has Asperger’s. The part of the book I loved the most is getting to see him through his own mind and his daughter’s. Highly recommend 🙂

I recommend *Autism unmasked* by Devon Price.
You might also enjoy *Care work* by Leah Lakshmi Piepzna-Samarasinha, which is essentially a guide to viewing society through a disability lens.
Neurotribes by Steve Silberman! A great picture of adhd/autistic culture!
This is more of a “finding a way to work around certain challenges of neurodivergence” thing, but *How to Keep House While Drowning* by KC Davis has been really helpful for me (ADHD) with regards to working around executive function issues.
