I have been rekindling my love for books the last few months and have been therefore reading incessantly ever since – however, I find myself to be in somewhat of a reading slump at the moment.
I’ve been lacking some commitment, since I couldn’t thrust my attention to one book only. However, none of the books I’ve touched the last few days emitted the certain spark I am looking for.
I want to read a book that scrutinises human nature, our flaws and our ardours, that shows our vulnerabilities, the aspects that make us human. I’m looking for tragedy, melancholia, but at the same time for adventurous and unexpected turns, profound psychological, maybe philosophical concepts that question the way we live and storytelling that really makes me immerse myself into the stories.

It would be a great help for me!

    1. Sometimes a short story collection is good if you’re in a slump. And the mood you’re describing makes me immediately think of Raymond Carver.

His collection “What we Talk About When We Talk About Love” might be a good fit. Personally, I prefer the draft version, called “Beginners.” (An editor made some changes that Carver himself wasn’t a fan of. Beginners is his original version.) any of Carver’s stories would probably fit.

    2. **Split Tooth by Tanya Tagaq** instantly popped in my head.

Its not really long, the authors a famous inuit throat singer and semi-autobiographically describes her upbringing in northern Canada in the 70s. I was amazed by how much I liked it.

What about a memoir? I really found Educated by Tara Westover to be one of the best books I’ve read in the last few years.
