I haven’t read it yet but Barrett Martin just released a book about Screaming Trees, The Greatest Band That Never Was (he’s also doing a one-man-show tour supporting the book).
I read Mark Yarm’s Everybody Loves Our Town several years ago and remember it as an interesting, accurate read.

everybody loves our town by mark yarm – a good retelling of the highs/lows of the grunge scene
